POP ART LEGEND – ANTHONY LISTER, WITH MEGGS, EARS AND WEBUYYOURKIDS, LIVE AT PROJECT 5

aMBUSH Gallery and Cockle Bay Wharf are bringing four of Australia’s most defining and individual artists together at Cockle Bay Wharf, for the much anticipated second instalment of Project 5 – a live art and music event for charity.

Presenting Sydney with yet another showcase of groundbreaking street art, the Cockle Bay shores at Darling Harbour will be abuzz as the dockside area is transformed into a live art work bench for internationally renowned Australian street artists – Anthony Lister, Meggs, Ears and Webuyyourkids; complete with Future Classic deejays cranking out tunes for all.

From Friday 20 August 6-9pm, and running across the weekend between 12-3pm, the three day outdoor event is a unique chance to see these cutting edge creatives hard at play. Kick back and enjoy being part of the fun and experience as the guys let loose with spray paints, stencils and brushes on four large 2.4m x 1.0m panels. Or catch the live-webcast streaming directly from Cockle Bay Wharf at www.cocklebaywharf.com.au.

Once complete on Sunday 22 at 3pm, the finished one-off works will be sold at Leonard Joel (Sotheby’s Australia) auction house in Double Bay, October 14 (6-9pm) – Australia’s second only ever street art auction. Sure to be a high profile event packed with investors and urban art lovers keen to get their hands on a piece of history in the making; all proceeds from the auction go to charitable arts and media organization Information and Cultural Exchange (I.C.E), who run creative arts programs for disadvantaged youth in Western Sydney.

We’ve just received the first actual copies of our book and are all stoked on the result!
As the Art Director & Designer of the book, I’m particularly proud of what we’ve achieved and that we now have official documentation of our last 6 years of hard work and passion.

So I’ve finally got around to posting some pics of the install for my Melbourne ‘King for a Day’ show including the ‘Sword of Damocles’ installation piece.

‘Sword of Damocles’
The Sword of Damocles appears frequently in popular culture including novels, feature films, television series, video games and music. The Damocles of the anecdote was an obsequious courtier in the court of Dionysius II of Syracuse, a fourth century BC tyrant of Syracuse. Damocles exclaimed that, as a great man of power and authority, Dionysius was truly fortunate. Dionysius offered to switch places with him for a day, so he could taste first hand that fortune. In the evening a banquet was held where Damocles very much enjoyed being waited upon like a king. Only at the end of the meal did he look up and notice a sharpened sword hanging directly above his head by a single horse-hair. Immediately, he lost all taste for the amenities and asked leave of the tyrant, saying he no longer wanted to be so fortunate.

hong kong hustle

Heres a bit of a visual diary of some shenanigans in Hong Kong, again I’d like to thank May, Dom (startfromzero), Jasper and Layla for the night missions and photos. Also a special mention to the other creative talents I met in HK such as the inspiring Suitman and Chris & Jen from Garageworks – who were kind enough to give me a late night tour of their awesome workshop space and upcoming projects (so much rad toys and original artworks)! Good times!

King for a day – Hong Kong recap

So I just got back from a great week in Hong Kong. I’d like to say a huge thank you to May and Jasper from Above-Second Gallery for hosting me, putting on a great show and their awesome hospitality in showing me around the city! And to the peeps at Roxie for hosting a fun ‘superhero’ styled afterparty. Also a special mention to Dom ‘Start From Zero‘ for taking me out for a bombing mission and props on their street work and developing a fresh street art scene in HK. Going out with Dom reminded me of the early Everfresh days and how these guys share the enthusiasm and motivation that reminded me why we all started out in the first place. Also a big hey to all the super nice crew I met, partied and hung out with in HK – who came to the show and showed me a good time – wish I could have stayed longer, but HK is definately somewhere I’ll come back to more often.
